Also known as Elephant Foot or Suran, Yam is sometimes mistakenly thought to be from the Arbi or Taro family. While Yam has starchy texture, it has a slightly sweet flavor and hence, it is used in celebratory dishes like yam cakes and candied yam. Yam is also consumed as stewed, roasted or fried. Yam is a good source of complex carbohydrates, dietary fiber, Vitamins C and B6, and potassium and manganese.
